Doug Theus was hired by the Los Angeles Unified Schools Police Department (LAUSD PD) as a Police Officer in 1988. In 1994 after 5 ½ years with the LAUSD PD, Doug accepted a position as a police officer with the Santa Monica Police Department. 

Doug quickly distinguished himself as a hard worker and a leader. While assigned to patrol, Doug served as a member of the HLP Team, Defensive Tactics Team and the Metro team. Doug was a member of the SWAT team for 19 years where he served as a scout and team leader and the Tactical Commander.

In 2001 Doug was promoted to Sergeant. From 2001 – 2008, Doug work a variety of assignments as a sergeant. He was assigned as a patrol supervisor, supervisor for the field training officer program, to the Internal Affairs Division and the Detective Bureau.

In 2008, Doug was promoted to Lieutenant. Doug has worked a number of assignments as a Lieutenant which includes; Watch Commander, Office of Special Enforcement Executive Office, Office of Operations Executive Officer and the Professional Standards manager.  Doug also served on the Police Officer Association (POA) for several years and was the POA vice chairman.
