The Santa Monica Police Officers Association endorses Santa Monica City Council Candidates Lana Negrete, Armen Melkonians, and Albin Gielicz as well as Measures CS, DT, and DTS.

SANTA MONICA, CA – The Santa Monica Police Officers Association (SMPOA) is proud to endorse incumbent City Council member Lana Negrete, Armen Melkonians, and Recreation and Parks Commissioner Albin Gielicz for election to Santa Monica City Council.

“We must elect policy makers that make public safety a priority, and Lana, Armen, and Albin are committed to providing the Santa Monica Police Department with the resources we need to keep our community safe,” said Gerardo Leyva, SMPOA President.

Council member Negrete works with residents to activate public spaces to keep them clean and safe for local families and uses her role on the council to facilitate law enforcement and community connections. Armen Melkonians is committed to increasing police personnel to facilitate and increase the visibility of our officers. Albin Gielicz shares Armen’s commitment to increased public safety funding and has pledged to create public messaging to deter crime in our community.

These three candidates are committed to the success, safety, and well-being of our city.

“We all have choices to make this November, if feeling safe in our community is top priority for you, cast your vote Lana, Armen, and Albin.” said Leyva.

Leyva continued, “In order for these candidates to have the resources they need to devote to public safety we also ask for your support and yes vote on measures CS, DT, and DTS.

Out of an abundance of caution and concern for the health and safety of our fellow community members and healthcare workers, we have decided to cancel this Saturday’s annual Candy Cane Drive. Though we’re saddened to not be Santa’s official escort around our city this year, the big guy has told us to rest assured that Santa Monica is on the nice list for his rounds next Thursday night. Happy Holidays everyone and we’re confident we’ll be back to this great tradition next year.

Stay safe, stay well and stay merry.
